Aina secures $5.5M seed round to build AI-first hardware interfaces

Aina, a design-led hardware startup, has raised $5.5 million in seed funding to commercialize its AI-first human-computer interface and expand its team. The round was led by Redstart Labs and 360 ONE Asset, with participation from notable investors like CRED founder Kunal Shah.

TL;DR

  • Aina raises $5.5M seed funding to develop AI-first hardware interfaces.
  • The startup aims to revolutionize human-computer interaction with context-aware devices.

What happened

Aina, a Bengaluru and San Francisco-based startup, secured $5.5 million in seed funding led by Redstart Labs and 360 ONE Asset. Additional investors include MIXI Global Investments, Antler, Blume Founders Fund, and prominent angel investors like CRED founder Kunal Shah and Razorpay co-founders Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar.

The funding will be used to bring Aina's flagship human-computer interface to market and expand its engineering and product teams across both locations. Founded in May 2025 by former Ultrahuman Vice President of Hardware Apoorv Shankar, Aina is developing hardware designed for the emerging era of AI agents.

During its first year, Aina operated in stealth as Project Mirage, a human-computer interaction research lab. Earlier this year, it introduced Dune, a three-key context-aware keypad for Mac computers that automatically changes its functions depending on the application being used.

Why it matters

Aina is entering a competitive market where startups worldwide are experimenting with AI-first hardware and interaction models. The shift towards AI-first interfaces could be as significant as earlier transitions in computing, according to investors.

The funding comes as India's AI ecosystem gathers momentum, with the government's IndiaAI Mission expanding access to affordable computing infrastructure and supporting indigenous AI models. Investor appetite for Indian AI startups has remained strong, with recent funding rounds including Emergent's $130 million and Sarvam's $234 million rounds.
