What happened

The Busan Metropolitan Government launched the 2026 AI Startup Competition, accepting applications from July 7 to September 30. The program targets pre-launch teams and startups under two years old with innovative AI-based business ideas. Eligible applicants can be from anywhere in South Korea, provided their ideas align with Busan's nine strategic industries, including digital technology, energy technology, bio-health, and future mobility.

The city will select 11 teams through preliminary and final rounds, with the finals held on October 31 at the BEXCO Convention Hall. One grand-prize team will receive an award from the Busan mayor, while five top and excellence prize teams will receive awards from the president of the Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency. Five encouragement prize teams will receive awards from the chief executive of the Busan Center for Creative Economy and Innovation. All winning teams will also receive vouchers for generative AI services.

Six teams that meet agreement requirements, such as launching a business in Busan or relocating their operations there, will sign agreements with the city. These teams will receive expert consulting and up to 30 million won per team in startup and commercialization funding.

This competition offers significant financial and strategic support for early-stage AI startups, helping them commercialize their ideas and integrate into Busan's startup ecosystem. For developers and startup founders, this presents a valuable opportunity to gain funding and expert consulting.
